There was a big break between events and work going on that this episode took a bit longer to put together. It is definitely a different look at a race weekend as nothing went smoothly. It was a struggle from the very first session. In the end we ended up having to take a step away from the car and enjoy something…
Session 4, Qualifying Race – qualifying lap times don’t count toward lap records.
Session 3, Race 1 – I put fresh rubber on the car, but why can’t I go any faster.
Session 2, Qualifying – eh, not too shabby.
I had a little bit of an internal dilemma in whether to post this or not. I’m really proud of what I accomplished, but it feels too boastful to talk openly about it. I consider myself a modest person, so the idea of writing this out for the public makes me a bit uncomfortable.
Taking club racing back to its roots; sleeping in the trailer, cooking out on a little hibachi, running used tires, and generally just mucking about.
I was out last month to do some testing. Thanks to an invite from another local racer I was able to run on a Thursday afternoon during a private track rental and then again on Friday during the regularly scheduled open practice day. There was a mix of everything; sun, rain, clouds, things with fenders and things…
And it was on track Friday. If it weren’t for a leaky clutch slave and a crack in the trans casing it would still be in one piece. Next race is 17 days out so lots to do in little time. This would be much easier if I was at full health but some bug has taken over and left me feeling like crap.
Over the last two years we’ve had the idea to start a video series about club racing. Finally, we’ve gotten to the point of putting together the first episode. The goal is to document the life of a club racer who’s in the sport for the fun and excitement but desires to be more than just a field filler.
